Rua Direita serves as the vibrant main thoroughfare of Óbidos, connecting the historic Town Gate to the castle walls. Dating back to the 1300s and expanded during the 16th and 17th centuries, this narrow street offers a preserved glimpse into medieval Portugal. Visitors walk beneath Gothic portals and windows that adorn the facades of buildings lining the path. The street is visually striking, decorated with abundant geraniums and bougainvillaea that spill over balconies and walls, creating a picturesque atmosphere.

As the town’s primary shopping street, Rua Direita is the only area with sufficient width for limited car traffic, making it a pedestrian-friendly hub for exploration. A key cultural highlight here is the availability of "Ginja de Óbidos," a traditional cherry liqueur often served in small chocolate cups.

At the end of the street, visitors encounter the former Santiago church, which now operates as a bookstore. This landmark leads toward the main square, where significant sites await, including the Igreja de Santa Maria, the Municipal Museum, the Pillory, and the Casa do Arco da Cadeia.
